Following one or two accidents, parents are requested not to drive into Gravel Close, but park in the Borough away from the junction with Gravel Close, using the Co-op store car park wherever possible. The White Horse has also given us permission to use their car-park at drop off and pick up times only.
Some children travel to school using the public minibus – this drops off the children at school in the morning and collects them from the rear of school at the end of the day. Transport is free for pupils who live outside the two mile limit. Out of catchment children, or those living within the two mile limit may still use the minibus but a fee must be paid (approximately £1 per day per child). Pupils wishing to use the minibus should contact the cashier, who will provide the necessary forms
Please note that it is Wiltshire Council who has the contract with the bus company, and the school has no direct involvement in the service.
The school, in partnership with parents and the local community, is trying to address the problem of traffic congestion in the village. Our transport group has helped to improve crossing facilities in the village and have secured funding for bicycle sheds. Our next aim is to provide people shelters and a safer waiting area.
PLEASE help keep our children safe and do not use Gravel Close to drop off your children.
OUR SCHOOL AND THE LOCAL CHURCHES
We link our school with the 'Churches together in Downton' in a variety of ways and recently asked parents for their views on what is important about Downton being a Church of England School.
In particular, the ministers from St Laurence's Church www.stlaurencedownton.co.uk andDownton Baptist Church come into school at least once a week to lead the whole school in Worship. There are whole school services at St Laurence's church to celebrate important dates such as our Leavers' Service.
In RE several classes visit the churches to look at the buildings, special places within the churches, the churchyard and special artefacts.
We have special Worship to recognise important dates in the church calendar and we are learning about other religions.
OUR SCHOOL AND THE CATHEDRAL
We take up opportunities to participate in a variety of workshops and take part in projects offered to schools by Salisbury Cathedral such as the schools' outreach singing.
