Castle day!

year1 on: Year 1 Hedgehogs

We have had a really wonderful day. The children have had a great time in their costumes and had a great time learning more about life in a castle. They have made shields, knight masks, written poetry, had a medieval feast, explored medieval music and volume. We even had time to have a battle at the end of the day!

Measuring

year1 on: Year 1 Hedgehogs

We are using the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to start our new topic this term.  In maths we are currently using non standard units of measure to measure length and height.  The children enjoyed a practical maths activity this morning.  The beanstalk had been chopped into pieces and they needed to measure each section using cubes. We then added all the pieces up to see how long the whole beanstalk was.  It is now back together in our classroom if you would like to see it!

Safer internet week

year1 on: Year 1 Hedgehogs

We have made a start to safer internet week by thinking about what we might use the internet for at home on mobile phones, tablets and computers. The theme is 'create, connect, share respect. We have a school competition to get as many kind comments as we can on our blog update. Please comment for Year 1 to win!

Here is our class selfie!

Polar bears and penguins

year1 on: Year 1 Hedgehogs

I thought you would like to see the children's wonderful art from this term. We have been using collage in different ways to make Arctic polar bears and Antarctic penguins. They look brilliant and the children have really enjoyed making them.

Adding 'ed' and 'ing' to the end of words

year1 on: Year 1 Hedgehogs

The children have worked very hard today to write sentences using verbs. We changed the verbs by adding 'ed' or 'ing' to the end. We also learnt that this changed the tense!

What do you think?
