Collective Worship

Collective Worship at Downton

Our Collective Worship sessions are led by Rev. Ron Hart, Phillip Rhoades and Katy Ullyatt from the Baptist Church, The Bridge Project, visitors from charities, our Headteacher, other members of staff, The School Worship Council and different year groups from across the whole school. Collective Worship is a very valuable part of the school day where we can all come together, celebrate success, learn about the world around us and praise God.

Please visit our Religious Education page for information on RE at Downton.

Our Collective Worship Policy

Our school and the local churches

We link our school with the 'Churches together in Downton' in a variety of ways and recently asked parents for their views on what is important about Downton being a Church of England School.

In particular, the ministers from St Laurence's Church and Downton Baptist Church come into school at least once a week to lead the whole school in Worship. There are whole school services at St Laurence's church to celebrate important dates such as our Leavers' Service.

In RE, several classes visit the churches to look at the buildings, special places within the churches, the churchyard and special artefacts.

We have special Worship to recognise important dates in the church calendar and we are learning about other religions.

Our school and the Cathedral

We take up opportunities to participate in a variety of workshops and take part in projects offered to schools by Salisbury Cathedral such as the schools' outreach singing.

World Faith Day

We had a wonderful day celebrating different faiths from around the world and all children took part in a special workshop held by Katy at the Baptist Church, creating a tile for our Prayer Garden. Here are some of our photos from this day.

Our Easter Walk

This year, each class created artwork for each part of the walk that Jesus took. At each ‘stop’ children were able to take time to reflect on how the values help them to live out their lives. Here are some of our photos from this special day.
